IEEE 802.11n is now an official standard

After months of speculation, the IEEE 802.11n specification was ratified on September 11th 2009.

The specification IEEE 802.11n-2009 has been 7 years in the making, it has been released and sold for nearly 4 years and has built a commanding lead in the Wireless Data Infrastructure technology.

What do I have to do to benefit?
If you have already experienced years of stable and high throughput wireless connection with Draft 2.0 products, you will be pleased to hear that there is no need to update your current Draft 2.0 Wireless N product(s) to any new firmware/driver.

If you were waiting for the spec to become official, then you can run to your local reseller straight away and pick up a D-Link product with the "draf N" logo, as re-certification will not be necessary.

In short, you can just continue to use your Wireless N products or pick one off the shelf!

Are there any added benefit for me?
The final standard does bring new benefits, such as the continued harmonised development of dual and multi-stream technologies, which will lead soon to speeds of up to 600 Mbps (4 stream) and even Gigabit.

Now that the specification is available as a common wireless standard, we predict greater adoption in the general consumer electronic industry; for example Microsoft Xbox360 announced an 11n wireless adapter on September 11th.

Why Wireless N by D-link?
We have always had unfaltering confidence that Wireless N was and will remain the wireless technology for the foreseeable future and now we are leaders in this field; our products are therefore tried and tested, performance-rich devices that the consumer and business alike can trust.
